"How to setup a Dial-Up connection in XP...”

To setup a dial-up connection to the Internet on a computer equipped with the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System, please follow these steps...

  • From the Start menu, select the Contol Panel.
  • Locate the Network Connections icon on the Control Panel.  Note: If you do not see the Network Connections icon... click on the Select Classic View on the left hand window pane.
  • Double click on the Network Connection icon. This opens the Network Connection window.
  • Click on the File menu, at the top of the Network Connection window, and select New Connection.  The computer then starts the New Connection wizard.
  • Click Next on the first screen shown by the New Connection Wizard.
  • Select Connect to the Internet as shown in the picture on the right then click on Next to continue.

Select Set up my connection manually
Then click on Next to continue.

Select Connect using a dial-up modem.  Then click on Next to continue.

  • Type in TRONDATA.  Then click on Next to continue.
  • Type in the local access number for your area.
  • If Cornwall is a local call for you, enter: 613-932-3941
  • Pay special attention to the number you enter here as the format of the number you enter MUST be proper for your dialing area.
  • Click on Next to continue once you have entered your local access number.

Type in your User Name.  User names on our system consist of a prefix string, a user ID string and a suffix string.

    • For example... idm/trondata/username@trondata.net
    • Type in the Password you selected when you registered for your TronData Internet account.  Type in the Password, once again, to verify the information.
  • Click on the top two selection boxes to turn on those features.  If you have no other firewall device active on your computer you may want to enable the last selection box.
  • Click on Next to continue once you have entered all of the required information and selected the appropriate options.

 

  • Click the Add a Shortcut to this Connection selection box if you would like a desktop short cut to be created.
  • Click on Finish to complete the New Connection Wizard.
  • Windows XP is now configured for your Dial-Up connection.
